I believe many of you know the chain, but many people still don’t understand the specific details of the chain. Today, I will tell you about the classification of the chain and how to use it? Take you to understand the chain knowledge.
Chains: Classification
Common chains in the market can be divided into oil seal chains and non oil seal chains. The so-called oil seal chain means that there is an oil seal between the inner and outer chain pieces, and the lubricating oil is wrapped in the middle to achieve the lubrication of the chain. If there is no oil seal, it is called non oil seal chain.
In terms of maintenance and durability, the oil seal chain has a longer maintenance period and better durability. At the same time, the bearing torque and tensile strength of the oil seal chain are higher, so it is wider and heavier than the non oil seal chain. However, in terms of price, non oil seal chains are relatively dominant, and the maintenance process is relatively simple.
Take the oil seal chain as an example, it can be roughly divided into six major structures: inner chain piece, outer chain piece, pin, bushing, roller and oil seal.
In the manufacturing of chain, the accuracy and wear resistance of pin and bushing are very important. Generally, the chain is elongated because of the wear of the pin and bushing.
Don’t underestimate this little difference. For a chain of 100 knots, as long as each knot is lengthened by 0.1mm, the total length of 100 knots will be 1 cm. Moreover, when the chain starts to wear, its wear speed will quickly become faster, so special care should be taken.
As for the pin of the chain, in addition to high machining accuracy, it must be a regular cylinder to maintain a fixed clearance with the bushing and reduce unnecessary wear. In addition, the outer layer of the pin must be plated with chromium carbide to increase rigidity and hardness and reduce wear.
However, too hard metal is easy to become brittle, and the center must be subjected to appropriate heat treatment to keep the center flexible.
Chain: how to clean
We must first understand that cleaning and maintenance are not the same thing.
The chain is most afraid of jamming, and it needs great strength to loosen. After loosening, the chain will not run smoothly, and the power of the engine will also be consumed on the rotating chain, and may even cause the chain to fall off. Therefore, the normal cleaning of the chain is particularly important.
Before cleaning, remember to prepare an oil basin under the chain. Do not let the oily chain directly contact the ground, causing environmental pollution. Most friends will recommend kerosene to clean the chain, and the effect is quite good.
If it is a non oil seal chain, it can be cleaned with kerosene without any problem. If it is an oil seal chain, it is not recommended to clean it with kerosene. The reason is that kerosene may cause the elasticity of the oil seal to become poor, resulting in the accelerated aging of the oil seal, causing the lubricating oil in the bushing to be thrown out and lose the lubricating effect, and also reducing the service life of the oil seal chain.
In addition, acidic substances can seriously damage the chain and are absolutely prohibited. It is recommended to buy the chain cleaner of the original factory to spray, so the effect will be better.
When using chain cleaner for cleaning, remember to run in the opposite direction to the chain to avoid hand pinching.
The oil seal chain and the non oil seal chain have their own advantages and disadvantages. Which one needs to be purchased depends on their own needs.
